Pyrosis

Pyrosis is a throbbing balmy and flaming feeling in the chest, generally just at the back the sternum or breastbone that usually comes in waves. The pain probably may start off in the chest area and built its way up to the neck, throat and jaw. The pain typically obtains worse when the patient lies down or bends over, and is more generally immediately after eating.

The Heartburn is medically known as Heartburn, Cardialgia or acid indigestion. The word "Pyronsis" is a common lay term that has nobody to do with the heart.

Cardialgia is typically associated to the gastric reflux - the regurgitation of gastric acid which is one of the main symptoms of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

As Pyrosis may also be an indication of ischemic heart disease, it is significant that doctors bear this in mind and do not jump to a GERD diagnosis too rapidly. Pyrosis is very ordinary problem in most of the people and it is usually there is nothing much to worry about. What are the signs and symptoms of heartburn?

Signs and symptoms of heartburn include:

• A painful feeling of warmth or burning in the chest which tends to take place after eating, or during sleep. It can last from a few minutes to several hours.
• When bending over or lying down the pain gets worse
• Some patients may feels a burning sensation in the throat
• There is a chronic cough, sore throat or hoarseness
• Sensation of food sticking in the middle of the chest or throat while swallowing.
• Many of the Pyronsis indications may overlap with those of GERD, simply because heartburn is one of the symptoms of GERD.
